South West Coast Path 2002 - Padstow to Sennen |
| Day 6: Gwithian to St Ives |
| 9.6 miles Distance from Padstow: 67 miles Distance from Minehead: 233.1 miles Read today's journal entry |

Tide coming in: Strap Rocks surrounded by the outgoing tide is one of the first views we see today |

A long walk ahead: Soft sand provides a very bad walking surface - but luckily we caught the outgoing tide, and this was quite firm |

Positive mental attitude: We ended up playing silly games to pass the time and being buzzed by a practising rescue helicopter |

A long walk: There's no way to cross the river at Hayle, so you have to take a huge tour inland - but at least that means a decent lunch break |

Back on the path: Through the graveyard of Lelant Church, start of the St Michael's Way path |

Fore! Here the path runs through sand dunes and beside a golf course and railway line |

Plumbing the depths: This 'scenic rail route' is also a terribly useful link between main-line rail at Penzance and the town of St Ives |

Train coming: But we'll be walking, as you may have guessed... |

Holiday spot: The lovely beach at Carbis Bay - but by now it was raining and it wasn't the time to enjoy it |
 |

St Eia's Town: Our destination for the day - and the end of the first stage of this walk |
