South West Coast Path |
| 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002: Padstow to Sennen 2003 2004 |
What we did: After two years when we'd failed to make much progress at all, this year it was make or break - time for a big push on the path. We had planned a 106-mile trip over two weeks between Padstow and Penzance, breaking at St Ives. We actually got as far as Sennen Cove when the weather deteriorated so badly that we couldn't continue - a total distance of just under 90 miles. |

How to use this index: For each day of the walk we have a page of photographs and a diary page. Simply click on the pictures to get to the photo pages and on the day number to get to the diaries. |
Day 1 |
| To Porthcothan from Padstow - the first day back on the path is easier than we feared, except after breakfast. |
Day 2 |
| Second-day blues make the walk from Porthcothan to Newquay a slog - and a tragedy (sort of). |
Day 3 |
| A race to catch low tide at the Gannel ensures a fast start to the Newquay - Perranporth stage. |
Day 4 |
| Hitting our stride as the Perranporth to Portreath stage passes through mining and surfing country. |
Day 5 |
| Confusing paths and a far-off B&B complicate Portreath to Gwithian - the day we go To The Lighthouse. |
Day 6 |
| The long inland detour for the Hayle estuary adds miles to the Gwithian to St Ives stage. |
Day 7 |
| A day off in St Ives, then an awful wet, boggy, rocky walk past Zennor to Boswednack. |
Day 8 |
| Boswednack to Botallack is little better, made worse by no chance of stopping for lunch. |
Day 9 |
| A lovely walk from Botallack to Sennen ends with wet feet and a unique place to stay the night. |
Postscript |
| Gale-force winds killed the idea of cliff-top walking, but we still had two days left on holiday... |
