South West Coast Path 2002 - Padstow to Sennen |
| Day 5: Portreath to Gwithian |
| 9.7 miles Distance from Padstow: 57.4 miles Distance from Minehead: 223.5 miles Read today's journal entry |

A good start: It's a lovely day up on the clifftop. Unfortunately, we had a pretty good idea what was coming next... |

Porth-cadjack Cove: This is nearly as bad as it gets - we haven't seen much like this since the Hartland to Bude stretch |

Boots made for walking: But they like a rest every so often too |

A popular area: The path runs close to a main road and through several car parks - rarely is the coast so accessible to motorists |

Reskajeage Downs: We're crossing into West Penwith now, and it shows here on the gorse- and heather-covered cliffs |

Ruler-straight: It's easy, pleasant walking on these cliffs approaching Hell's Mouth |

Tourist hotspot: Hell's Mouth is a lovely spot - but we've seen similar sights a hundred times as coast path walkers |

Best foot forward: For some reason, we feel luggage transfer would be cheating, since its within our physical ability to carry these rucksacks |

Virginia Woolf's lighthouse: Glimpsed here across the top of an old Ordnance Survey trig point |

Conservation in action: These ponies keep the scrub down and preserve the traditional landscape |

Hungry horse: Another shot of the hard-working ponies |

To the lighthouse: Godrevy's private these days and cannot be visited by boat, so the coast path is as close as you will get |

An exciting moment: We're heading for St Ives now - something we've been looking forward to since Minehead |

|

Sandy shores: We're headed for the Hayle Estuary after Gwithian - and a couple of long detours inland |
