South West Coast Path 2002 - Padstow to Sennen |
| Day 2: Porthcothan to Newquay |
| 9.6 miles Distance from Padstow: 23.2 miles Distance from Minehead: 189.3 miles Read today's journal entry |

A giant's footsteps: Legend has it that a giant used them as stepping stones, but this has been a tourist attraction since Victorian times. |

Meeting the public: Bedruthan will be busy since it's close to road access, but it's a lovely stretch of coast with some great walking to follow. |

Something I said? It's only September... Walkers dislike soft sand, but luckily the beach at Mawgan Porth was hard. |

Promontory fort: On this occasion you can see the remains of ramparts. |

Watch your step: One of the many points where the South West Coast Path is literally disappearing into the sea. |

Hang on a minute: When's the next one to Newquay due? |

Watergate Bay: A popular surfing beach, it's also of interest to geologists and has a hotel used to house RAF officers during the war. |

Rough seas: There's dramatic scenery whatever the weather on the way into Newquay. |

No wonder it's popular: The golden sands of Great Western Beach are deserted, but for that small party of surfers. |

Rush and bustle: It's always a bit disconcerting to encounter crowds after a long time on a deserted coastal footpath. |

|

A working harbour: As well as catering for the surfers and the holidaymakers, Newquay still has some fishing boats. |
