South West Coast Path 2003 - Sennen to Falmouth |
| Day 7: Helford to Falmouth |
| 10 miles Distance from Sennen: 79.2 miles Distance from Minehead: 335.5 miles Read today's journal entry |
Time to kill: Waiting for the ferry across the Helford River to arrive |
Captive audience: Once you get this far across the Helford, the ferry skipper shuts off the engine and collects your fares while the boat drifts |
Towards the source: Looking upstream as we cross the wide barrier of the Helford River |
Helford Passage: The unoriginally-named settlement where the Helford River ferry shuttles to and from |
Looking back: Heading for Rosemullion Head, it was time for a final look back at Nare Point, Manacle Point and the last ghost of the Lizard |
Rock group: Cornish geology is one long story of different types of rock thrown into close proximity by nature |
Deep water mooring: The Carrick Roads offer a sheltered anchorage for the largest of ocean-going ships - but this one was just fine offshore |
Getting closer: The eastward sweep of the coast after Falmouth is steadily coming into view. Next year awaits... |
Not much more of this: Bream Cove and the Hutches rocks are just about the last uninhabited area before Maenporth and Falmouth |
Proof of success: The castle on the skyline shows Falmouth has been reached - just Pendennis Point to walk round now |
Dwelling on the past: On the point below Pendennis Castle it's time to look back and think 'I walked all that - I must be mad' |
A good sign: We've visited the castle in the past so gave it a miss this time. Anyway, what would we need with a car park? |
