South West Coast Path 2003 - Sennen to Falmouth |
| Day 4: Porthleven to Lizard Point |
| 13.0 miles Distance from Sennen: 45.1 miles Distance from Minehead: 301.2 miles Read today's journal entry |

Leaving Porthleven: This picture, taken close to high tide, doesn't do justice to the beautiful beach at Porthleven |

The Loe Bar: Cornwall's largest freshwater lake is just out of shot to the left, cut off by the Loe Bar - Helston was once a port |

Sad reminder: A monument to 100 or so people killed when the HMS Anson beached in 1807 |

The Lizard: The area we are approaching is a geological rarity - and will be fascinating |

Church Cove: Here a pretty granite church sits in the shelter of the headland |

Worth a look: The church and its churchyard are an interesting spot, and it is worth pausing to look around |

First transatlantic broadcast: Marconi's transmission station was here |

Marconi's monument: We're pleased to report that there is mobile phone reception |

A pretty spot: We were starting to worry about time, and so didn't stop for long - this picture was taken later |

On The Lizard: It'll be a totally different landscape now until we turn the corner for Helford |

Grazing ponies: These must be the Royal Marines of the horse world |

Watch your step: In damp conditions (most of the time on The Lizard) these traditional stiles get hellishly slippery |

The Chair: The characteristic landscape of The Lizard - black rock and impressive cliff formations |

High-level heath: Not a good photo - but it makes the point about how flat the area around Predennack Downs is |

Soap Rock: Inventive place names on this stretch also include Velvet Rock, The Horse and The Bishop |

Kynance Cove: This is where the going gets tough and the tough... fall back on energy bars and complaining |

Indigenous wildlife: What a pleasure it is to come across... |

Lion Rock: In the distance, photographed against some very fetching heather... |
 |

The only disadvantage: Pretty little coves like this are always reached by a scramble down and followed by a hike upwards... |
